Fairy Tale presentation

For this presentation I researched on the fairytale Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
The story is about growing up.
Experiencing different stages of life.
In the original story, Alice has been questioned many times to identify herself.
At times she was mistaken to be someone else.
It describes how a child sees the adult world.

Our task is to interpret the original story through illustrations.
The end product that I have chosen is a picture book for children of age 5-8.
the aim of the assignment is to re-interpret a character and place him/her in today's/tomorrows context. We are to create a narrative continuity but must change the historical context of the tale and bring it into a different era of time.

I have decided to incorporate SiChuan's Face Changing Chinese Opera to Alice's story.
The characters in the story would have half a mask.
These masks are what represents the character like their personality, interest, status and so on.
In the Face Changing Chinese Opera, the masks all represent different types of emotions and feelings to show to the audience.

Feedback from Lecturer :

- The incorporation of the Chinese Opera mask is interesting. But having half a mask reminds him on the Phantom of the Opera which is to hide his disfigured face.

-The Face Changing masks can sometimes also look very scary. Since this is a picture book for younger children, it might scare them.

- Maybe could come up with more pleasant looking masks.

- The era is unclear. Therefore stylisation of characters are not consistent.

- Characters could have a more chibi look. The snowman concept. Big head, medium body, small legs.

- Like the colours and glowing effect used for mockup but suggests that I should use more solid colours.

- Should have more solid shapes and forms of the characters.
